Showcase: Freebooter's Fate Brotherhood Nobles

To end the series of Brotherhood figures on a high note - Nobility!

From left to right: The Raven. I am really pleased with how the paintjob on her worked out. The model is very pretty in itself but sometimes a colour scheme just works out in a way that I of all people am the one who is the most surprised with the result. It just clicks. Master Assassin you have seen before so not toio many words will be lost on him. Very strong, evocative model. Last but not least, the Queen of Shadows. Great miniature and the little goblin lurking under her dress is a very funny touch.

Here we got the whole band again:

They are with their owner now for weeks and he is very pleased with the results. As am I. And I indeed hope that you enjoyed this series of articles on the results of this project too. There will be more Brotherhood in the future so stay tuned. And of course if the Freebooter's Fate bug bit you and you want a warband painted like this one don't hesitate to contact me.

Showcase: Freebooter's Fate Brotherhood Harlequins

This addition to the Brotherhood is Harlequin and Master Harlequina. My goal in painting these figures was making them colourful and stand out next to the rest of the Brotherhood but still keep a very cool, sinister look to them. The muted blue is tying them together with the more well-clothed models in the warband. While this Harlequin is just a dynamic, fun model (who looks great from behind with all the adornments), Master Harlequina is a complex and technically amazing figure. Look at how the different fabrics and materials fold.

Next time: The last installment of this series of stunning models!

Showcase: Freebooter's Fate Brotherhood Lesser Nobles

This group I called Lesser Nobles, only mostly because I they feature quite a lot of blue rather than the usual grey, brown or other things.

Showcase: Blood Angels Sternguard

More Blood Angels, this time Sternguard! I really like how the laurels and the red armour contrast on these. If you look closely you can see the light OSL around the eye lenses and the dust on the lower ends of the tabards and on the "feet". Hope you like them!

Showcase: Blood Angels Sanguinary Guard

I worked on a whole new commission project. After quite a while I'm back to painting Blood Angels! It's great to return to these fellows. For now it's mostly veterans and Elites and such so I started with the Sanguinary Guard which I had never painted before. Very cool miniatures.

Showcase: Freebooter's Fate Brotherhood Weirdos

Okay, I dropped the ball on naming those guys. They didn't fit with any of the other guys so I just grouped them together as Weirdos.

Showcase: Freebooter's Fate Brotherhood Assassins

The next bunch of weirdoes. These probably are the most recognizably Brotherhoodian models from their range so I just called them assassins.

Review: T-34 tanks by Plastic Soldier Company

Today I am taking a closer look at Plastic Soldier Company's 15mm T-34 set. Released in 2010, this was one of the first PSC releases.

Showcase: Descent2.0 Reavers

Startingt a little series on some boardgames models I'm painting for a customer. These Reavery are from Fantasy Flight Games' Descent (2nd edition).

Showcase: Freebooter's Fate Brotherhood Scoundrels

Time to have a closer look at the Brotherhood minis! I categorized them vaguely and crudely by what they look like to me. Very subjective, not necessarily grouped in the way they are sold but oh well. Let's start out with some scoundrels, the "low-life"/street thug looking ones.

Showcase: Blood Angels Vanguard

Rounding off the Blood Angels -guard triad, here is a squad of Blood Angels Vanguard! Never painted Vanguard before. I like how they'er a little less gaudy than Sternguard, basically Assault marines with some additional adornments. Good stuff and I hope that you like them!

Showcase: Freebooter's Fate Brotherhood

Here we got the whole happy family all together for a group shot. Yup, this is Freebooter Miniatures' whole Brotherhood range (for now).

To an extent I always feel a tiny bit of a twitch when I have to give away finished models to their owners but this time it's almost sad having to part with these guys. What a wonderfully wacky and colourful bunch of maniacs.

Showcase: Adeptus Mechanicus

Today we got a real blast from the past. A few days ago I stumbled across these guys I did back in 2011 for a customer as a part of a really, really cool Space Hulk project. These guys of course are Techpriests of the Adeptus Mechanicus and a mix of metal, resin, plastic and green stuff. Very, very cool minis and despite the shoddy picture I hope you still like the look of them.

Showcase: White Fences

Now that I grabbed your attention with this heart-stopping title - I have been working on some terrain!

Show report: VIVAT 2014

comment: By "Tabletop" German speaking peeps usually mean "miniature wargaming".

I'm back from VIVAT and brought a bunch of pictures!

Review: 15mm Josef Stalin (IS-2) tanks by Plastic Soldier Company

Today I will take a look at one of this year's big releases from the Plastic Soldier Company, the heavy IS-2. (IS of course standing for Josef Stalin). As you probably noticed I currently work on a bunch of additional tanks for a client's Flames of War force. Amongst them some of these tanks and I thought I would share my thoughts on this interesting little plastic kit.

VIVAT 2014 - Austria's Historical Wargaming Event

This Saturday, October 18th 2014, the second VIVAT show will take place at Zinnfigurenwelt Katzelsdorf.

It's Austria's one and only event which is exclusively dedicated to historical wargaming and just like last year I'll attend and will run a painting workshop at the show.

So if you happen to be in the area, drop by! This gon' be good. :-)

Showcase: Freebooter's Fate Empire figures

Just to break up all the drabness of World War Two - here are some Freebooter's Fate miniatures I recently did for a local client. If you are not familiar with Freebooter's Fate, it's a slightly Fantasy-ish pirate-themed small-scale (about six to eight figures a side) skirmish game. Very solid set of rules. Absolutely stunning miniatures and there is a lot more to come so stay tuned!

Showcase: Freebooter's Fate Master Assassin

Another weirdo from the Freebooter's Fate Brotherhood range. ;) Weirdo but amazing model. I painted this one before a few years ago for another client and right from the get-go this model reminded me of Edgar Allen Poe's story Masque of the Red Death. And of House of Wax (the Vincent price one).

All said, very, very evocative and cool miniature. Hope you like it too!

Showcase: German reinforcements

Just a quick little somehting today - a few German reinforcements built mostly from Warlord Games' late war German infantry box.

Hope you like them. :)

Showcase: Dwarven Adventurer

Some night recently I felt a certain lack of steam behind my commission painting efforts and spotted an acquisition I had made with Hasslefree miniatures a few months ago so I took a little break and decided to paint this "random" figure.

Review: Warlord Games T-34/85

Just over a year ago Warlord Games added the Soviet T-34/85 to their small range of plastic 28mm World War Two vehicles. This tank kit is what I take a closer look at today.

Review: Tactical Terrains Control Station

You guys surely are aware that MDF terrain has been all the rage for the past three, four years or so. Today I'll look at the offerings of some MDF from Germany - the Control Station kit from Tactical Terrains.

Project Alchemy - An Oldhammer & Collecting Citadel miniatures charity project

Hey guys, let's talk charity. Wait, don't close the browser tab just now, there's amazing stuff to be won.

In a collaboration of greatness the Oldhammer community and Collecting Citadel Miniatures have set up a charity project to raise money for UNICEF.

WIP: Freebooter's Fate Brotherhood Warband

This is a first WIP shot of a cool Brotherhood warband for Freebooter's Fate. The models of course are sculpted by the highly skilled Werner Klocke and I have to say that despite the fact that I don't play the game myself I am really starting to enjoy these sculpts.

I have it on good authority that the game is pretty great as well. Certainly worth checking out. If you're looking for an in-depth review of the game, don't look farther than the ever so great Meeples and Miniatures Podcast. Episode #130 has a review of Freebooter's Fate.

This isn't even half the number of models I'm doing for the warband (well, the entire Brotherhood range actually) so stay tuned for more!

Okay, we have seen the full squad shot, let's take a look at the detailled pictures of the single models.

Showcase: World War II late war German infantry squad plus support

With a title containing more letters than the whole project does miniatures you know it's good. ;-)

Today we got 17 recently finished German soldiers from WW2 I painted for a customer. These figures are all Warlord Games plastics (with a little add-on which I will talk about later).

Detail pictures will follow soon so stay tuned and have a good weekend!

Showcase: Tau Army Shot

Here's the full army shot of the commissioned Tau army, sans the Stealth Suits Kill team, they were redeployed home before the rest of the army was finished. Hope you like it!

Mittwoch, 23. Juli 2014

Showcase: Tau Crisis Suits

And another little Tau unit! Crisis Suits of course. They actually are two teams, one of three with dual burst cannons and the other one of two with two missile pods each. The team leaders are identified by the little unit badges on the left side of their chest armour and slightly larger antennae on their "heads". Always nice working with these models. I know, they aren't the prettiest around but at this point and after being part of 40k for almost 13 years they are somewhat iconic and memorable models in their own right.

Review: Zandris IV Pendeka Battle Suit

In today's quick review I want to have a look at Zandris IV's Pendekar Battlesuit. I got this miniature recently and thought you may be interested in getting to know this alternative mech for your sci-fi tabletop games.

Showcase: Western Desert Force Reinforcements

Yesterday I sat down to paint a few reinforcements for my own little early desert British, just so they get some more support options.

Showcase: Tau Drones

Just a quick one today, to come down from all the big stuff showcased lately. This is an array of different drones from the commissioned Tau army. By far not all of them, just a few. About a third of the total number of drones in the army is magnetized so the lower parts can be switched. I added some extra drones and options for the army for free because you never know when you need an extra shield drone. :-)

Showcase: Tau Riptide

Now that we're done with the small things for the Tau, let's go big - with a Riptide.
